So Why Moonlight cont.....

The story-lines each week were fantastic....and interwoven with all of the action...we learned a bit more about each character...their good traits ..and bad....their likes and dislikes....and we grew to love each of them.... why? because the actors playing them were so good at their job. Each actor was perfect in their role.. It's been a long time since I've seen a TV series that was so BRILLIANTLY cast..each actor OWNED their character.
The only cast member I had seen prior to Moonlight was Alex O'Loughlin.. I don't watch much TV remember...and I liked him... he was great in the Australian film Oyster farmer...but he moved to a whole new level in Moonlight...the role of Mick St. John was MADE for him.

so Why Moonlight Cont.....

When she cancelled the show Nina Tassler from CBs said that the show was "Actor-Centric"...what nonsense...Each cast member, including the leads, was reliant on all the others to make the story work. The show could NOT have worked if it was focussed solely on the relationship between Beth Turner and Mick St. John. The entire script was based upon the inter-relationships of all the characters.
Josef Kostin, played BRILLIANTLY by Jason Dohring... is the antithesis of Alex O'Loughlin's Mick St John. Kostin is a 400 year old vampire....who is comfortable BEING a vampire...as opposed to Mick.. a vampire for only 55 years... and who still wants to be human.
Likewise Corlaine..Mick's Vampire wife..played by Shannyn Sossamon...is the opposite of Beth
Vampire - Human... Light - dark...Old - New....
That was another reason why I liked the show so much.... the complexity of the relationships and the characters. Just when I thought I had a real handle on a particular character...they would do something.. OUT of character.. I loved that..

So Why Moonlight

What is so special about a TV show.. that I would start a blog about bringing it back?

Well first off Moonlight wasn't just one of your average run-of -the-mill TV shows. From the first scene...my attention was captured..not something that happens with me a lot. I don't really like TV as a rule... so it has to be something special to make me watch in the first place... and something EXTRA special to make me interested enough to tune in for the next episode..
So what was it the GOT me?... well the show was well written and the cast were all excellent... but I think that what really sealed the deal for me was the on-screen chemistry between the lead actors Sophia Myles ( Beth Turner ) and Alex O'Loughlin (Mick St. John). That sort of chemistry is rare indeed, in fact it is almost never seen in either film or in television, and it was there from Scene 1 and lasted and in fact intensified throughout the season.
